Atari creates a mobile EVP role for Crossy Road co-creator Matt Hall
Hall will report to chairman and CEO Wade Rosen and oversee Atari Mobile. His remit includes the systems and platform relationships required for regular releases across mobile, web, PC and consoles.
Atari announced the new position on 27 October. Hall co-founded Hipster Whale and helped create Crossy Road; his appointment brings a mobile developer into a role that also shapes how Atari’s wider catalogue moves between platforms.
The company says he will work on portability across engines, strengthen relationships with third-party mobile platforms and build infrastructure for recurring releases. The direction runs both ways: taking mobile intellectual property to web, PC and console, and adapting successful PC and console games for mobile audiences.
Atari points to its acquisitions of Hipster Whale and Early Morning Studios, together with its RollerCoaster Tycoon mobile games, as the base for that work. This announcement is a leadership and operating-structure change, not a new acquisition or the disclosure of a separate development budget.
Rosen says Hall had already become part of Atari during the year. The EVP appointment therefore formalises responsibility for a dedicated mobile business and a broader cross-platform publishing plan. The release does not identify the next games to move between platforms or commit to release dates.
The business significance lies in that remit rather than the appointment alone: Atari is putting catalogue adaptation, mobile platform partnerships and release infrastructure under a named executive. Financial performance targets and the commercial terms of any future distribution agreements remain undisclosed.
