CMF opens Iteration funding for new content in previously supported games

The 2026–27 intake opened October 28 and closes December 8, or earlier if its budget is exhausted. Eligible projects can request the lower of C$350,000 or 75% of the new phase's eligible costs.

Canada Media Fund's Iteration Program supports significant new work on existing interactive digital media projects with a demonstrated market record. It can cover new content, features or levels, as well as ports and localisation connected with a release plan. It does not finance a new game or a sequel under the label of an iteration.

Eligibility is restricted to projects that previously received production-stage CMF support. They must have generated at least C$500,000 in gross revenue or reached 20,000 units sold or downloaded. The original project must remain commercially available, its final deliverables and cost report must have been completed, and the file must be closed.

The project must also remain within the relevant CMF recoupment or profit-participation period and its seven-year exploitation and reporting term. A project previously supported by the Iteration Program cannot apply again. Applicants remain subject to the broader Canadian IDM eligibility rules and can submit one application per fiscal year.

Funding is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis until resources are exhausted or the deadline arrives. Applicants need a description of the new work, a business and audience plan, and a budget for the new phase. The new work should be intended for release within 18 months and the project must be available in Canada.

This is follow-on project financing, not a universal grant for any successful studio. The programme's recoupment provisions and wider CMF rules still apply. Application materials, the detailed guidelines and the official application system are linked from the programme page.
